Challenge
Our client needed a brand refresh that would reflect their business values and growth.
In an industry dominated by Eurocentric beauty standards, women of color with natural hair textures often experience salon trauma and inadequate care. Our client needed to establish the first curl-exclusive salon in Madison, WI that would provide both technical expertise and emotional safety for an underserved community. We were tasked with creating a brand identity that would communicate luxury and expertise while celebrating natural hair textures and establishing Harper’s Hair Culture as a revolutionary space in a market where representation was severely lacking.

Goal
We researched the market gap, defined strategic brand positioning, and created a comprehensive visual identity system that authentically represented the client's values and resonates with their target audience.
Our aim was to develop a comprehensive brand ecosystem that would position Harper’s Hair Culture as a sanctuary where Black and brown women’s natural beauty is elevated and celebrated. Through strategic design and messaging, we needed to communicate the salon’s unique value proposition of combining technical curl expertise with cultural understanding and emotional intelligence. To to embody a premium experience that didn’t compromise on authenticity or inclusivity.

Result
We created a sophisticated brand identity that balances luxury with accessibility and empowerment.
The distinctive wave motif in the logo icon symbolizes natural hair patterns while conveying movement and transformation. The rebrand of Harper’s Hair Culture has transformed the salon experience for women of color in Madison, with the brand messaging emphasizing education, community, and the celebration of natural beauty. Providing a healing hair care experience for Black & Brown women with waves, coils, and curls.
